SUMMARY:September meeting of the Lee Manor Society and AGM
DESCRIPTION:The Lee Manor Society will be holding its Annual General Meeting in a new format this year. Our AGM will take place at 7.30 pm ahead of a regular general members’ meeting in the Church of the Good Shepherd\, Handen Road on Wednesday\, September 30.\nManagement committee members will report to the meeting on the Society’s activities over the past year and the position of its finances. The present management committee\, consisting of Simon Bucks\, Mike Haste\, Frances Migniuolo\, Karen Pratt and Charles Batchelor will be standing for re-election. We are keen to add new members to the committee to expand the Society’s range of activities. Nominations to the committee should be presented to the Society at leemanorsociety@gmail.com at least seven days before the date of the meeting – by September 23.\nWhy are we doing this? In previous years\, the Society has held a special annual general meeting in the Manor House Library followed by a talk on a subject of local interest by a knowledgeable speaker. We felt this combination of ordinary Society business with the talk did not work well and meant interesting speakers attracted smaller audiences than they deserved.\nWe are now launching a walks and talks programme that is not tied to the AGM\ntimetable. The first walk will be around the former Lee New Town\, the area north of Lee High Road\, starting from St Margaret’s Old Churchyard\, Lee Terrace at 10.30 am on Saturday\, October 10. The walk\, which will last about two hours\, will be led by Paul Wright\, the local historian who delivered an illustrated talk on the same subject at our 2025 AGM. The walk will be free.\nThe first talk will be titled ‘Rock Around Lee’\, looking at Lee’s considerable role in the popular music scene\, at 7.30 pm on Tuesday\, November 10 at the Old Tiger’s Head on the Lee Green crossroads. The talk\, also by Paul Wright\, will be free. \nAfter the meeting there will be drinks and snacks.
