How Lee Manor Society is adding trees to local streets

Charles Batchelor and David Ford of the Lee Manor Society had their work cut out planting a new hawthorn tree in Manor Lane.

They had to do battle with an unexpected concrete lintel blocking the hole. A bit of heavy duty work with a hammer and chisel was needed to create an opening large enough to take the tree and the support staves.

David Ford is pictured with the “banging-down tool” which is used to get the staves in the correct position to support the tree. A couple of spadefuls of mulch completed the job. Look out for the new addition near the corner with Micheldever Road. If you live in Lee and would like more trees in your road leave a comment below or email leemanorsociety@gmail.com.
