It includes London Square’s “Construction Logistics Plan” for Leegate,, which our planning expert Michael Haste notes omits any details of the phasing pf the building work.
There is also a new application by London Square to demolish a row of garages on the south side of the Leegate site, adjoining Carston Close. London Square acquired the garages after it bought the main site from Galliard. They intend to build a row of townhouses on the plot.
Charles Batchelor and David Ford of the Lee Manor Society had their work cut out planting a new hawthorn tree in Manor Lane.
They had to do battle with an unexpected concrete lintel blocking the hole. A bit of heavy duty work with a hammer and chisel was needed to create an opening large enough to take the tree and the support staves.
David Ford is pictured with the “banging-down tool” which is used to get the staves in the correct position to support the tree. A couple of spadefuls of mulch completed the job. Look out for the new addition near the corner with Micheldever Road. If you live in Lee and would like more trees in your road leave a comment below or email leemanorsociety@gmail.com.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich have now made the East and West Greenwich LTN permanent, according to a report by the Westcombe Society. The LTNs were introduced on a trial basis in November 2024.
They affect many roads and operate during rush hour periods of 0700 to 1000 and 1500 to 1900 on weekdays,.
The Westcombe Society says this has been done without any further consultation. It says Greenwich Council claims that ‘after extensive trial and consultations’ the scheme has contributed to making the area ‘safer, cleaner and greener’ and that more people have been encouraged to walk or cycle thus improving air quality. However the Society takes issue with some of the data which the Council has used to justify the LTNs.
It goes on: “The reality is that, although many of us living in the LTN now enjoy even quieter streets than previously, this is at the expense of those living on the boundary roads and in Charlton.”
