The Lee Manor Society Plant Mart and Garden Party raised a record £2,300 – beating last year’s record amount of £2,000.
The money will provide a huge boost to the Society’s work protecting the built and natural environment of Lee.
The funds will be used for planting trees and greening the area. We also have plans for a history heritage trail, and an exhibition about the history of Lee at Manor House Library in July.
Our major project is the Big Bed Rescue in Manor House Gardens. This ambitious initiative, in collaboration with the Friends of Manor House Gardens, will create an exciting new sensory and educational experience for visitors in the flower bed at the north end of the Gardens near the café. And, of course, our fund-raising also supports the running of the society, including our website.
The Society is hugely grateful to the many volunteers who helped with last weekend’s event. Everyone who donated plants and books, and baked cakes, and sold them. The wonderful Saxty team, who kept everyone sustained with top cream teas. Everyone who helped sell raffle tickets and Tombola tickets (sorry if you didn’t win!). Plus, our wonderful face-painter and water-colour artist.
Thanks too to the many people who lent tables, chairs and gazebos and helped put everything up and take everything down.
And of course, we are hugely indebted to the homeowners at numbers 2 and 4, and St Monica, who generously allowed us to use their front gardens and drives.
And as always, we are immensely grateful to the many Lee businesses and others who contributed prizes for the raffle, and helped us by advertising the event.
Give yourselves a massive round of applause!
