Saturday December 13th will be the last opportunity to see inside the amazing house at 179 Burnt Ash Hill – a former GP surgery and – for the last few Saturdays – a shrine to a bygone age and the doctors’ Irish heritage. The house is in the process of being sold.
Below are some photos of the exhibition which has been mounted by the doctor’s grand-daughter Charlotte Mann. The house was also the family home, with an enormous garden.

A family home, full of books

My friend and I visited the property, though our doctors was the one on staplehurst road, and it belonged to Dr John Carey, one of the brothers. It was a wonderful look around at things that we had forgotten had existed, even looking at the book of green shield stamps, and all those wonderful books and the lady who spoke to us gave us a prescription with our names on it, and a grandchild who was clearing out under the reception desk found something with Dr John Careys name on it and gave it to me. Thank goodness this family came from ireland and served this community, they were lovely people and very good doctors.
