Lewisham planners have written to residents alerting them to the latest application by London Square. In a letter they set out the proposed key changes from the existing consent which London Square inherited from Galliard. They are:
- 59 extra residential units, taking the total to 620
- An increase in the amount of “affordable” housing from 36.2% to 46.3%.
- The main tower to go to 17 storeys above ground, with no basement.
- Only 21 residential Blue Badge parking spaces, and one commercial Blue Badge space.
- Relocation of the medical centre to the ground floor of Block B and a reduction in the overall commercial space.
- A revised energy strategy from individual Exhaust Air Source Heat Pumps to a Communal system.
- The full application can be viewed here – where you can also post comments. The planners have set a deadline for comments of August 29th.
The Lee Manor Society believes that any building in the area which is higher than 12 storeys is in breach of the adopted Local Plan, so the planners should reject the application. The Local Plan says that “…the maximum height of buildings shall not normally be more than…32.8 meters(10 storeys) to 39.2 meters (12 storeys) in Bellingham and Lee Green.” (The document can be found here – pages 78 and 79).
Imagine the site being returned to a green space.
It might help reduce pollution from the slow moving traffic and afford a little less stress to anyone passing by including the countless motorists waiting at the lights.
The next target for development are the allotments that local councils currently own.
The deputy prime minister is actively encouraging the councils nationwide who are struggling financially to consider selling many more than have already been sold to developers.
I haven’t been able to find out what Lewisham’s financial state is.
I suspect that if it was in the black and not in the red we would see even more banners throughout the borough proudly boasting this achievement.
The tower is too high.
This amount of residential properties with no parking facilities is ridiculous, you are spoiling our village. Lewisham council will put double yellow lines everywhere and charge residents to park outside their own house and Greenwich will follow suit because of displaced parking.
Where are all these people going to work? Local businesses are struggling to afford to keep current staff levels let alone take on more.
Where will the children go to school?
People from elsewhere won’t visit local shops and the area will die all for the sake of making up the housing quota, this is wrong.
Refurbish the existing site which the original owners deliberately left to rot, including the car park, and let people get on with enjoying Leegate as it used to be.
