Building work to start soon on the former Leegate site

London Square has confirmed that is has finally secured permission from the Building Safety Regulator to start building work on its new Lee Green development on the old Leegate site.

Under government regulations developers can’t start “Gateway 2” work on a “High risk building” until it has been approved by the regulator. High risk buildings are those above 18 metres high, or with more than seven storeys.

London Square has now got the greenlight to start piling work on two of three blocks due to be built on the site, blocks A and C. These are the one bordering Burnt Ash Road and the one on the corner of Burnt Ash Road and Eltham Road.

Piling is the essential process of creating foundations on solid rock well beneath the surface, which will support the buildings. The BSR decision allows them to build up to ground floor level so they will need further approval to start erecting the buildings.

London Square says it aims to start the work next month, and accepts it will be noisy. “As with any piling operation, there will be periods of construction noise and increased activity. We will manage the works carefully to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and keep stakeholders informed as the works progress,” the Project Director. Aidan Pritchard , told the Lee Manor Society.

It’s understood that London Square is expecting to get permission to start work on Block B very soon.
