Have your bins been emptied?

Wondering what’s going on with bin collections.? Some parts of Lee haven’t had their food bins emptied for more than a fortnight, with turkey carcasses and other Christmas leftovers rotting inside.

Lewisham Council say the Christmas and New Year holidays should only delay collections by up to three days. But they have also admitted that “severe staff shortages” have caused further delays. Now they have promised that things should get back to normal by January 13th. Fingers crossed! Find out more here.

In the meantime, have a laugh with the Naked Week’s take on the Christmas bin issue!

  1. Green bin hasn’t been emptied for three weeks now. To rub salt into the wound, they were outside this morning. I looked out to see them jumping back into the van/cart before driving off, having emptied none of the bins!! The road was a mess of bins over Christmas. I understand the pressures but am now very fed up.

  2. Well I stupidly assumed that as they were emptied the Satuday after Xmas Day the same would have after NYE. Silly me, they are happily being filled with rainwater – which I imagine will be another reason why they won’t be emptied, as passers by try to put their rubbish in and leave the lids up – and the wind of course. It would be interesting to find out why they have been left.
